The KSAAE Third Annual Professional Development Conference and Business Meeting “Arts, Science & Beyond: Moving from STEM to STEAM” was held on September 20. The conference was held at the Smithsonian affiliated Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, Kansas. Janet Ivey, Creator of Janet’s Planet and our Keynote Speaker, spent the day sharing her expertise and providing hands on experiences creating learning environments for teaching science through art, dance, music and story. In addition, Kansas educators and artists presented on arts integration in all of the STEM subjects. Workshops were held by Kansas State University faculty including Fred Burrack (Engineering & Arts), Katie Kingery-Page and Kathrine Walker Schlageck (Science/Technology & Arts); Tracey Tomme from the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center (Science & Arts); and Jeanine E. Murphy and Linda Stecher (Math & Arts) of USD #449.
